Golghar is one of the most famous places to visit in Patna. This large, dome-shaped structure was built in 1786 by a British officer named Captain John Garstin as a storehouse for food grains. It was designed to help prevent famine in the region. However, due to a small design flaw, the doors open inward, it could never be filled to its full capacity.

Originally, Golghar was meant to be the first of many grain storage buildings, but no others were ever constructed. Despite this, the beehive-shaped structure remains an important historical site. Designed by John Garstin from the East India Company’s Bengal Army, it was completed on July 20, 1786. In 2002, efforts began to restore and enhance its appearance.

Today, Golghar is surrounded by a beautiful garden, making it a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. Visitors can climb its 145 steps to reach the top, where they are rewarded with a breathtaking view of Patna and the Ganges River. The fresh air and panoramic scenery make it a great place to relax.

Many people visit Golghar for a quiet day out. Some enjoy picnics with family and friends, while others come to watch the light and sound show held here. Whether you love history or nature, Golghar is a must-visit spot in Patna!
