Jal Mahal, which means “Water Palace,” is one of Jaipur’s most beautiful sights. It stands in the middle of Man Sagar Lake and looks like it is floating on water. The palace was originally constructed around 1699 and renovated in the 1750s by Maharaja Madho Singh I as a hunting lodge for royal duck-hunting trips. It was never meant to be a royal residence.

The palace is a great example of Rajput and Mughal architecture, made from pink sandstone in a perfectly symmetrical design. While it looks like a one-story palace, there are actually four more floors hidden underwater! The walls were specially designed to stop water from seeping in, and this system has worked for over 250 years.

Visitors are not allowed inside the palace, but it can be admired from the banks of the lake. In the evening, the palace lights up, and its reflection in the water makes it look magical. The area around the lake is lively, with street food vendors and local markets where people gather to enjoy the view.

Jal Mahal is one of the most photographed places in Jaipur because of its unique setting. If you ever visit, take your time to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and capture its beauty, especially at sunset
